The 2011 DAKAR is underway and all eyes are on American hopeful Quinn Cody!

Jan 9th, 2011

On New Years day 2011 JCR/Honda's Quinn Cody and the Dakar Rally saw an emotional beginning when more than one million enthusiastic spectators frenetically cheered for the 430 racers as they headed of into the deserts of Argentina and Chile. Buenos Aires famous Avenida 9 de Julio and the obelisk provided the scene of the ceremonial start of the 2011 DAKAR Rally. With live crowds totaling more than 4 Million along the course, the DAKAR is a force of nature in its own right, in addition to the 190 countries that air the DAKAR every day for several weeks. The global exposure from this race is truly amazing. Similar in many ways to the Tour De France. In fact, the DAKAR is ran by the ASO, the same company that runs the Tour De France except in the DAKAR the streets are replaced by the most gruelling Off-Road terrain South America has to offer. Stages average between 200 and 400 miles per day at speeds reaching 100 MPH.

JCRHonda's own Johnny Campbell just returned from DAKAR and had this to say. "DAKAR is the biggest, toughest test of man, his desire, mental and physical being. In order to finish you have to push yourself day after day- with minimal rest in the harshest conditions. Quinn is quickly proving that he has what it takes to conquer the DAKAR. He has done a remarkable job, as well as the Team Honda Europe crew in securing consistent finishes day after day. Quinn has been executing our strategy perfectly, and I am excited to see him complete the entire journey back to Buenos Aires this week.” -- Johnny Campbell
