JCR Honda NHHA Rd1 Race Report

Jan 27th, 2020

This weekend the Desert MC hosted Round 1 of the 2020 NHHA season in Johnson Valley OHV. The club laid out two challenging 40-mile loops for a combined total of 80 miles of sandy washes, rock-strewn trails, hills, and valleys. There was a solid turnout, with over 450 race entries. Dakar winner Ricky Brabec made and appearance, signed autographs under the JCR/Honda tent and was honored at the riders meeting for his recent, historic victory in the rally. JCR's Preston Campbell made his 450 Pro class debut and started strong in 6th place after the bomb run. He came through the pits nearly an hour later, maintaining the position. After a quick pit stop for fuel and goggles, he departed for loop 2 on his CRF450X. At the conclusion of the 80-mile cross-country desert race, he would settle for a well-deserved 7th overall for his first 450 Pro class appearance in NHHA.

Tarah Gieger stepped out of her comfort zone and lined up for her very first Hare & Hound desert event. Unfortunately, directly off the start, she was T-boned and hit the deck. She recovered quickly and put her head down through the cloud of dust. By the end of the first 40-mile loop, she had caught and past all the riders in the Women's Pro division. With a quick pit and info from the JCR pit crews, she knew she had control of the class. Wrapping up the second loop, she maintained a solid pace to put her CRF250RX on the top step of the podium for round one.
