Trevor Stewart dominated the Round 5 of the AMA Big6 WCGP

May 15th, 2018

This past weekend Round 5 of the AMA Big6 WCGP was held in Primm, NV. The race was hosted by the Sunland Shamrocks MC, with warm weather in the mid 90’s.

JCR/Honda’s Trevor Stewart rocketed off the start putting his Benny Breck prepped Honda CRF450RX into the lead with the “ultimate holeshot”. Trevor dropped into the desert section and quickly seeded his dominance from there on. He managed a 10-second gap on the second place rider nearly the entire 1.5-hour race. The JCR crew pitted Trevor at the 56-minute mark, with a speedy and precise refueling, a quick encouragement and hydration. Trevor won the race with a 5-second margin on the next bike, managing his race flawlessly, winning wire to wire, extending his championship points lead and proving once again that the Honda CRF450RX is the bike to beat.

The course layout started on the short-course truck track and used the surrounding desert landscape, for a 7-mile course filled with deep sand berms, fast straights, plenty of squared chop and a small MX style section leading into pit row which was positioned in the parking lot of Buffalo Bills Hotel/Casino. Lap times ran at the 11.5-minute mark for the leaders, forming an intense 8-lap race for a total time of just over 1.5hrs total.

Preston Campbell battled hard in the 250 pro class and finished just off the podium for a respectable 4th.

The WCGP now will take its summer hiatus, reconvening the first weekend in October, with 3 rounds remaining.
