JCR/Honda HOT at Cahuilla Creek GP round 5 of the Big 6 Grand Prix Series!

Sep 8th, 2011

JCR/Honda was not the only thing that was hot at the GP this past weekend as temperatures hovered around 100 degrees for the 2 days of action packed racing at the popular Cahuilla Creek MX facility, located near Anza, California. The Vikings MC hosted round 5 of the popular GP series, challenging the racers to 6+ miles of a fast, dusty course including two motocross tracks and weaving through the surrounding hills with plenty of elevation change, whoops and soft, silty corners.

Colton Udall started Saturday’s races with a great start, taking over the lead on the first lap to a convincing win in the unclassified race of 200 plus racers. Next up was the Open race in which Colton would not be so fortunate. A minor mistake off the start set him just inside the top ten, not the jump he was looking for as the dusty conditions would prove to be a major factor. Colton rode a stellar race despite the obstacles ahead of him. One by one he made calculated decisions passing all but one of his competitors. Second was not the finish he was looking for but solid for maintaining his position in the championship points for the #1 plate. Wrapping up Saturday’s events was a 1.5 hour Team race, Colton and partner Mark Samuels would go on to have a solid ride to and claim second Overall. Colton being the champion he is, was not going to let his guard down as he had 1 more race to go for the weekend. Sunday’s 4 stroke race would be all Colton’s, as he dominated the field in the final event, leading start to finish on his well prepped CRF450X. Also throwing roost this weekend was JCR team owner Johnny Campbell finishing 1st and 2nd in the vet and senior classes respectively.

"This Weekend was tricky! It was very important to get a good start because the dust was so bad, worse than Baja! I raced JCR's custom built fuel injected Honda CRF450X machine and it was the perfect choice for the tough course. I was amped to get the win in the 4-stroke class on Sunday!" -- Colton Udall

"Colton rode really well this weekend. Despite the 2nd in the open race, I was impressed with how much he has learned in the past 2 years. He came through the pack, not wildly taking chances in the dust but very precise, making good decisions and taking good lines. Once again, the Honda CRF proved that it is the machine to beat when the conditions are challenging as they were at Cahuilla." -- Johnny Campbell
